Although there are many VoIP apps for both operating services, today we’re going to talk about the best VoIP functions on the iPhone. Apple has found many ways to differentiate itself from Android phones. And communication features are one of their biggest differences.
For years, Apple has been innovating how users talk to one another. With iMessages, Apple changed how a regular cell phone sends text messages. They use their own servers instead of relying on a cell phone carrier. This means even an iPad or a MacBook can send iMessages, as long as they have an internet connection.
This is very similar to the way VoIP works. It’s a break from how conventional cell phones operate. Apple works differently from a typical Android phone in this way.
This is why we’ve decided to look at the best VoIP functions on the iPhone. Apps such as Skype work great for both android and apple products. But in order to highlight its uniqueness, we’ve decided to look at Apple specific apps.
VoIP functions on the iPhone
- FaceTime – Similar to Skype, FaceTime lets you have a video call with somebody. Unlike Skype, however, you are able to contact someone directly with their phone number. As long as they’re in your contacts and you have Wi-Fi, you can FaceTime someone on any Apple device.
- FaceTime Audio – Removed of the video feature, this app comes with all the same features the regular FaceTime has. And the voice clarity on FaceTime Audio is superior to a standard call from a mobile device. It’s more in line with what you’ve grown accustomed to when using VoIP.
- Family Location Sharing – This is a relatively new function. For family and close friends, users can share their location if they need help. All the information is sent through apple servers, so as long as there’s Wi-Fi, the message can be sent. Find My iPhone is used in a similar fashion, but for when someone lost their iPhone.
Apple will continue to innovate within the mobile device platform. With each of its growing features, it’s continuing to become more and more similar to VoIP.
